When Ideas Become Things

I find it truly amazing when an idea–that ethereal, unreal wisp of a thought–becomes an actual object.  Thanks to the hard work and vision of Tiffany Besonen, our mere fume of an idea about doing modern interpretations of Babylonian Incantation Bowls is becoming a collection of real, tangible objects.  It is so exciting!  Here’s a little preview of the inside of one of the bowls with a poem inscribed:

Tiffany and I will be giving an artists’ talk at the Nemeth Art Center in Park Rapids, MN on Friday, June 21 at 3 pm. We’d love to see you there! I’ll do a reading of the poems for this project, we’ll explain the origin of the idea and give a little history of the ancient bowls, and Tiffany will talk about her process of creating the sculptures.

For those too far away to come, you may have a chance to hear the talk or see the exhibit later. Our hope is that it will travel. If anyone has a suggestion for a gallery venue that might be interested in the exhibit, let us know!
